The 18-25 year olds of today will be the best educated generation
in U.S. history. They will be buying homes at an earlier age than
previous generations. They know what they want out of life and are
willing to work hard to get it.
Here's more fun information about this age group who are also the
most diverse of previous U.S. generations:
- They intend to balance career and family while leading lower-stress
lives than their parents.
- 82% perform volunteer work the year prior to entering college.
- 78% percent indicate that having a good relationship with their
kids is (or will be) a sign of success and accomplishment.
- They have no recollection of the Reagan Era and probably do
not know that he had ever been shot.
- 92% own a computer.
- The compact disk was introduced when they were one year old.
- They are the most racially and ethnically diverse in American
history. One in three is not Caucasian.
- 32% are first-generation college students.
- One in three lives in a family that does not include both parents.
- 65% own a debit card; 61% own an ATM card; 53% percent own a
general purpose credit card. They have always had a PIN.
- 71% believes that most businesses will take advantage of the
public and 82% are skeptical of what they see in the media.
- As a group, they spend $3,129 million in soda each year and
$329 million in granola/nutrition bars, which is slightly higher
than their spending for candy bars. Overall, they eat healthier
than previous U.S. generations.
- 81% are willing to work hard to get what they want out of life.
- 68% will buy a different brand just to see what it's like.
- Accidental deaths and environmental poisonings for this group
is down.
- To them, popcorn has always been cooked in a microwave.
- They are generally "rule followers" and will rebel
by behaving not worse, but better.
- Most have cell phones and expect everyone else to be as instantly
accessible as they are.
- They have names that are harder to pronounce and spell than
past generations.
